Lipids and lipid-derivates play a crucial role in the production of a variety of products, from cosmetics and personal care to food additives. Unfortunately, many of these products are not produced in a sustainable manner, as they rely heavily on unsustainably produced and globally sourced plant oils as the primary raw material. At TerraLipids, we believe that we can harvest the full power nature can provide by tapping into the potential of microorganisms to produce lipids and lipid-derivates in a more sustainable way. Our mission is to create a greener future, one lipid at a time.

Technology - Harnessing the Power of Microorganisms

  • Strain Engineering

    Our technology focuses on producing lipids using established but also unconventional microorganisms. By employing rational strain engineering techniques, we aim to optimize outcomes and make the production process economically viable. However, we are mindful of consumer preferences and are also able to avoid the use of genetically engineered microorganisms in our processes, if needed.

  • Fermentation

    Our goal in the area of fermentation is to develop highly robust and scalable bioprocesses for maximum efficiency. We are constantly striving to use the most energy-saving technology. We aim to use inedible materials as feedstock and try to valorize side streams in order to maximize economic outcomes.

  • Downstream Processing

    Our approach to downstream processing is aligned with our strain engineering and fermentation efforts. Our focus lies on developing processes that are resource-efficient, yet compatible with existing large-scale production facilities. We believe that this holistic approach will yield the best results and make a significant impact in the production of sustainable lipids.
